The City of Irvine was conceived and planned in 1959-60 and incorporated in 1971, yet it wasn’t until April 1989 that the Irvine Civic Center, the city’s first permanent city hall, was dedicated in the Westpark area.

The Fluor company relocated several times before building new headquarters in Irvine composed of 2 main buildings: high-rise Corporate Offices and lower-rise offices for Fluor Engineers and Constructors, Southern California Division.

Architect William Pereira created the master plan for the UCI Campus at Urbanus Square, formerly the site of the Newport Harbor Buffalo Ranch. One of the barns, a Sears and Roebuck pre-cut building, was moved to the UCI campus in 1971.
