Cunnane Residence
City of San Buenaventura Historic Landmark #39 is described as “the home and office of Dr. Thomas E. Cunnane, the City’s physician after the death of Dr. Bard in 1902. The structure is one of the few remaining examples of Queen Anne cottage style architecture. Now used as business offices.” Dr. Cunnane was a prominent public figure, but didn’t live in the house very long – he bought Dr. Bard’s house in 1903. A marker in front of the house misspells Dr. Cunnane’s name and misses the year he established his practice in Ventura, 1900, by a year. It may be inaccurate as well in saying that it was built in 1884 as the Ventura Free Press reported that the original owner, Dr. C.F. Miller, was living there in 1882. Those details aside, the marker states that, “The house was restored in 1981 by Richard King and Paul Jordan” and it appears to have been well-maintained since.
