Stationmaster’s House

Tucked between commercial lots on Costa Mesa’s Newport Boulevard is a half-acre parcel containing a historical gem, one of the city’s oldest homes (Diego Sepulveda Adobe is the oldest). The 900-square-foot structure, known as the Stationmaster’s (or Station Master’s) House, was built as early as 1880 in Santa Ana and moved to Costa Mesa in the 1940s. In a L.A. Times article about the sale of the property on which the house is located, it was reported that it was built as living quarters for the station master who worked the Paularino branch of the Santa Ana and Newport Railway, which ran from Santa Ana to the Newport Pier. The article also mentions that in 2004 the house was renovated by Richard Maxfield; the Costa Mesa Historical Society documented the effort. The Stationmaster’s House is on the Costa Mesa Register of Historic Places.
