Royer Mansion, Orange, Orange County

Royer Mansion

The Royer Mansion faces on Chapman Avenue across the street from City Hall in Orange. The 2-story, 6,100 sq ft residence was built in 1900 in a late Victorian style for retired physician Dr. Daniel Franklin Royer. Considered a distinguished early pioneer of the City, Dr. Royer was a member of the Board of Trustees for six years and served as mayor of Orange from 1902 to 1904. After he died in 1929, at the age of 77, the mansion became a mortuary, then changed ownership twice before becoming an office building. In 2006, the property was purchased by the Orange Redevelopment Agency. The appraisal of the property by Parkcenter Realty Advisors mentions that building records indicate that major renovations took place in 1964 and 1984. It also mentions that the Federal Colonial style entry with columns was added to the original structure, but not when.
