Masonic Temple

The cornerstone of the Masonic Temple in Santa Ana was laid with all due ceremony on December 5, 1930. Prominent Long Beach architect Horace B. Austin designed the 4-story building in what is described as a modified Gothic Revival style with Moderne influences. Construction was completed in 1931. Built to house several Masonic groups, the building featured a highly decorated lodge hall, auditorium, banquet hall, lounges, library, penthouse apartment and five retail shops. Boarded up in 1985, seismic work was done in 1999 and the interior was refurbished in late 2000 after which it served as the Santa Ana Performing Arts and Event Center. It was sold to the Church of Scientology in 2006 and underwent further restoration before opening in June 2012. It is a contributor to the Santa Ana Downtown Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places.
