Lee Drug, Hollywood, Los Angeles County

Lee Drug

B. D. Bixby built a two-story commercial building in Hollywood at the corner of Hollywood Blvd. and Highland Ave. in 1935. Its initial occupant was Lee Drug; the building takes its name from this store. In its heyday, the drugstore, due to its proximity to major Hollywood studios, sold a large selection of TV and screen make-up to actors. One source describes its style as a synthesis of the Art Deco and Streamline Moderne idioms. Lee Drug is a contributing structure to the Hollywood Boulevard Commercial and Entertainment District on the National Register of Historic Places. LA Conservancy mentions that this and three adjoining buildings are threatened with demolition in all three alignments of the northern extension for the Metro K Line.
