Workman and Temple Family Homestead Museum, City of Industry, Los Angeles County

Homestead Museum

The houses, cemetery and gardens of the Workman and Temple Family Homestead Museum in the City of Industry, as described on the museum’s website, are located in the heart of a former Mexican rancho. They provide visitors with the opportunity to explore what life was like in the region from the days of the Mexican ranchos to the Roaring Twenties. William and Nicolasa Workman immigrated to the area in 1841 and quickly established themselves as cattle ranchers. Their fortunes changed and most of the land was sold by the turn of the century. The Workmans’ grandson, Walter P. Temple, and his wife, Laura, purchased a portion of the Homestead in 1917 and built their residence, La Casa Nueva, there. The houses, as well as the family cemetery, El Campo Santo, comprise the museum owned and funded by the City of Industry and managed by Historical Resources, Inc.
