Plummer House

Plummer House was built in 1874 in what would become West Hollywood by Eugene Raphael Plummer on 160 acres the family had homesteaded next to Rancho La Brea. It was known as the “Oldest House in Hollywood” and designated as California Historic Landmark #160 in 1935. Virtually forgotten today, Plummer is considered by some as a Hollywood pioneer who preserved many romantic traditions of old Los Angeles throughout his 91 years. Plummer split his time between farming and working as an interpreter for the Los Angeles court system. According to a reliable source, Plummer often acted as interpreter for Michael Leonis which resulted in a relationship between the families. So when the house was threatened with demolition in 1983, it was moved to the grounds of the Leonis Adobe in Calabasas, serving as the museum’s visitor center and gift shop.
