Museum of Making Music

The Museum of Making Music in the headquarters building of the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) recently reopened after a two-month-long renovation. Founded in 1901 as the National Association of Piano Dealers of America, the organization was renamed to NAMM in 1919. The organization moved its industry headquarters from Chicago to Carlsbad in 1984. After ten years, the offices were overcrowded and members of the Board of Directors reasoned that it would be more cost-effective to find affordable property and construct a new building. Property was purchased on Armada Drive overlooking the Flower Fields and the building, designed by architect Brian Paul, was completed in 1997. The Museum of Making Music, on the ground floor of the headquarters building, was founded a year later and opened to the public in March, 2000.
