US Court of Appeals

The Spanish Colonial Revival style building that serves as the Richard H. Chambers U.S. Court of Appeals in Pasadena has long been a visually prominent landmark in Pasadena and represents in its history a major episode in Pasadena’s development as a winter resort. During World War II, it served as the McCornack General Hospital, but when it was built in 1930-31, it was the main building of the Vista del Arroyo Hotel. During the great age of Pasadena resort hotels in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the Vista del Arroyo was a small hotel that grew and prospered along with the local tourist industry. The hotel played host to high society from near and far, as the golden age of train travel brought visitors from all over the world to Pasadena. The Vista del Arroyo Hotel/United States Court of Appeals is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
