Parker House
The National Register nomination of one of the handful of remaining pre-1890 houses in Orange concludes with, “The Parker House, one of the finest historic homes in Orange, is representative of the Boom of the [1880s], and significant for its associations with I. H. Parker.” Parker was a local builder who “apparently did well enough during the Boom of the Eighties” to buy several lots and build this 2-story 1,900-square-foot house for his family in 1886. Sources vary on the specifics of the Victorian-era styles used – Eastlake, Stick, Italianate – but agree that is presents an esthetic blend of them. In 1937, the property was sold to Mrs. Josephine Parks, the grandmother of the present owner. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.
