Thriller House

Michael Sanders owned numerous warehouses in Los Angeles used for import/export storage. He was the first owner of this 3,532-square-foot Queen Anne/Eastlake home on Carroll Avenue in 1887. It replaced another house that had been abandoned and while the house was demolished, trees surrounding it, notably a Moreton Bay fig, were left standing. Originally a 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom single family residence, the property has been converted to duplex-type housing. The exterior of the Sanders House featured prominently in the climax of the epic 1983 video for Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” directed by John Landis (IMDB indicates that the interiors were shot on a sound stage).
