Gamble House, Fullerton, Orange County

Gamble House

The two-story, 3700 sq ft Gamble House on Raymond Avenue is the only example of a true Streamline Moderne residence in Fullerton. It was built for Robert and Ethel Gamble and their sons by the Jewett Brothers, a long-established building company, between March and September of 1940, at a cost of $16,000. According to the Fullerton Heritage, “[Construction p]rogress was reported frequently in the Fullerton News Tribune, in which the house was often referred to as ‘the castle.’ At the time of house’s construction, Raymond Avenue was minimally constructed and terminated at the property, so the house was situated alone near the top of the hill.” The Gambles sold the house in 1962. The structure, which had deteriorated over the years, is slowly being restored. The house is listed on the City of Fullerton Local Register of Historical Resources.
