University of California (3 of 3)
Landmark #500 Part 3 of 3 – the master plan developed by William Pereira for the UC Irvine campus included twelve buildings. Today we are featuring the Gateway Study Center, Humanities Hall, Krieger Hall and Langson Library. The Orange County & Southeast Asian Archive Center (OC&SEAA) occupies the first floor of the Gateway Study Center. The second floor houses a computer lab, study rooms, and collaborative workspaces. The Division of Humanities was one of five liberal arts divisions poised to welcome students upon campus opening in two buildings, the main Humanities Building and Humanities Hall. The former was renamed in 2000 to honor professor Murray Krieger, a founding director of the school’s Humanities Research Institute. Langson Library contains the collections and services that support research and teaching in the Arts, Humanities, Education, Social Sciences, Social Ecology, and Business & Management.

The original master plan developed by William Pereira for the UC Irvine campus included twelve buildings arranged around the 21-acre Aldrich Park. The park is completely encircled by a pedestrian walkway known as Ring Road and criss-crossed with a network of pathways. Whether for the futuristic Brutalist architecture designed or inspired by William Pereira or the verdant bowl of Aldrich Park, the campus of University of California Irvine has provided a unique setting for numerous films and features.
