University of California (1 of 3)

Landmark #500 Part 1 of 3 – the master plan developed by William Pereira for the UC Irvine campus included twelve buildings. Today we are featuring the “outliers” – Crawford Hall, Schneiderman Lecture Hall, Steinhaus Hall and UCI Student Health Center. Crawford Hall is part of a sports complex on the northeast side of campus. The Santora Elite Training Center was an annex of Crawford that was renovated into a weight training facility in 2013. Schneiderman Lecture Hall is included here mostly due to its reduced accessibility (for photography). The Pereira facade of Steinhaus Hall was removed as part of a seismic retrofit in 2008, leaving only hints of Pereira’s design on the roof and in the support structure. The Student Health Center on the east side of campus is unique as a single story building built on level ground.
