Veterans Memorial

The Veterans Memorial in Murrieta’s Town Square Park is a landmark in process. After only eight weeks of construction, yet four years of planning, the city of Murrieta dedicated a long-anticipated memorial to its veterans on May 31, 2010. The focus of the memorial is a 25-foot-tall pentagon-shaped granite obelisk “draped” with an American Flag, created from intricately-laid granite pieces. To one side of the obelisk is a POW-MIA empty chair and surrounding it are walls of stone with laser etched images related to 20th century conflicts. Phase 1 (WWII) and Phase 2 (Korean War) are complete. Work is proceeding on the Vietnam War Wall and a mock-up of the design currently stands in its place. The annual Field of Honor in the park is presented as a community service by the Rotary Club of Murrieta in partnership with the City of Murrieta.
