Citizen News Building

The two-story Citizen News Building in Hollywood, on Wilcox between Selma and Sunset, was constructed between 1930 and 1931 by architect Francis D. Rutherford. The design reflects the execution of the Art Deco architectural style at the height of its popularity. The building served as the headquarters for the Hollywood Citizen-News, operated by Harlan G. Palmer and his family, from 1931 until the paper ceased publication in 1970. The newspaper was formed from the merger of the Hollywood Daily Citizen, that began operation in 1921, and the Hollywood News, that began production in the 1920s. It grew to become the fourth largest newspaper in Los Angeles. The building underwent a multimillion-dollar renovation in 2006 and is now a multi-use event space. It was designated a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 2018.
