Truxaw-Gervais House
The Truxaw-Gervais House in Anaheim was just a day away from demolition when Barbara Stovall told her husband, James, that she could not bear to have the house torn down. A friend of the Stovalls had seen the old house and told them that it would make an ideal restaurant and Barbara was much taken with the idea. The White House Restaurant opened January 15, 1982. This large Colonial Revival home was built in 1909 on 2.5 acres and was at that time one of the finest homes in Anaheim. The house was a product of Dosithe Gervais’s success in the orange nursery business. At one time he had a total of 50,000 trees in his nurseries. The second owner, and the one whose name is used most commonly for the house, was Dr. John Truxaw who served the city for forty years. The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
