Reseda Theater

The Reseda Theatre opened June 2, 1948, with Irene Dunn in “I Remember Mama” and Brenda Joyce in “Shaggy”. The popular spot for double features during the San Fernando Valley’s postwar housing boom was renamed Cine Reseda in 1981, screening Spanish language movies. It closed in 1988 and eventually acquired by the LA Community Redevelopment Agency. Plans to turn it into a community-oriented entertainment venue in 2008 fell through. LA Councilmember Bob Blumenfield has worked with developer Thomas Safran & Associates to redevelop the site. The plans add 13,360 square feet to the property, converting it to a six-screen theater. The iconic marquee will be preserved and the empty lot behind the theater will be transformed into an affordable senior multi-family housing development.
