The Bradford House
New England horticulturist Albert Sumner Bradford moved from Maine to what is now Placentia at the age of 27. Three years later, he sent for his wife and children, bought 20 acres of land that he called Tesoro Rancho, planted oranges and opened a citrus nursery. The family’s 15-room home, designed by architect James Stafford in the Colonial Revival style, was built in 1902. Bradford, considered the founding father of Placentia, helped organize the early Fullerton-Placentia Farmers Union and the Southern California Fruit Exchange and bring the railroad to Placentia. He had his own packing house which is still in operation. The house is listed as Orange County Historical Site #22 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
