Hollyhock House
Oil heiress Aline Barnsdall commissioned Frank Lloyd Wright for his first Los Angeles project to design and build a home for Barnsdall and her daughter, a theater, a director’s house, studios for artists and more on Olive Hill in East Hollywood. He named the residence Hollyhock House after Barnsdall’s favorite flower. When viewed from above, Hollyhock House reveals its unique-for-the-time indoor/outdoor living relationships, as well as its stunning views of the Los Angeles basin. Hollyhock House is a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
