La Jolla Cove

La Jolla Cove is a small, picturesque cove with a white sand beach surrounded by sea cliffs in the La Jolla community of San Diego. With the protection of the cliffs, this area rarely has high surf making it ideal for safe snorkeling and scuba diving, kayaking and swimming during the summer months. La Jolla Cove is within the San Diego-La Jolla Underwater Park, a marine refuge area with specific restrictions protecting marine life. The ocean floor of the cove is often covered with bright orange Garibaldi, the California state fish, guitarfish, kelp bass, sea stars, anemones, and other marine life that lives in the Park. California sea lions favor the area, mostly on the south bluff called Point La Jolla.
