San Buenaventura City Hall

The Ventura County Courthouse Annex was built on a rise overlooking Main Street in Ventura in 1912-13. It was designed by architect Albert C. Martin with a gleaming terra cotta exterior, neo-classical columns, colossal interiors and an elegant Italian marble foyer. In 1969, the courthouse closed its doors when it was determined to be seismically unsound. To save the building from demolition, the City of Ventura purchased it from the County. After three years of planning and two years of restoration, structural reinforcement and replacement of plumbing, electrical and air conditioning systems, the building opened for City business in 1974. It is a State of California Historical Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
