Fullerton Masonic Temple
The second home of the Masonic Temple in Fullerton was built in 1920 at a cost of $115,000, taking the place of a much smaller building just down the street. It was the first of the major buildings to be constructed in the prosperous decade following WWI. The building was designed by architect Frank Benchley, son of prominent architect Edward Benchley, incorporating the Mission/Spanish Revival style. The Temple soon became the center of social and charitable events in Fullerton, particularly in the years before the advent of television. Many of the City’s prominent men belonged to this organization, with membership remaining well over 400 until its decline starting in the 1950s. The Spring Field Banquet Center bought the building from the Masons in 1993. The building is a City of Fullerton Local Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
