Goodyear Airship Operations
The Goodyear Airship Operations base in Carson opened in January 1968. It covers 27 acres and has been home to nine Goodyear blimps (with just five different names) since opening. They have been Columbia, Eagle, Spirit of America, Spirit of Innovation and currently Wingfoot Three, the new model of semi-rigid airship that replaced the GZ20 blimps. Located on a wedge of land where the San Diego (I405) and Harbor (I110) Freeways intersect, each day more than a million commuters drive past the base and can catch a glimpse of the Goodyear blimp, unless she is out and about traveling the country! Over the years, Goodyear has built more than 300 airships, more than any other company in the world.
