Santa Fe Depot
After a fire destroyed the original 1886 station in San Bernardino, the current Santa Fe Depot was constructed in 1918. It was designed by W. A. Mohr of the Cresmer Mfg. Co. in a combination of Mission Revival, Moorish Revival and Spanish Colonial Revival styles. Opening on July 15, 1918, the depot was declared to be a “monument to the Santa Fe and the town the railroad built.” At that time it was the largest train station west of the Mississippi River. In 1992, San Bernardino Associated Governments acquired the depot and property from the railway and worked with the City of San Bernardino to bring the 57,000 square foot depot back to life. The project was completed in June of 2004. The depot is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
