Muckenthaler Cultural Center
Walter Muckenthaler moved to Southern California in the early 20th Century. He studied architecture, served in the military then married Adella Kraemer of a wealthy Placentia family. They purchased 80 acres of producing walnuts, lemons and avocados and in 1923 commissioned architect Frank Benchly to design and build their 18 room Mediterranean style mansion, the Muckenthaler House and Gardens. Their son Harold donated the house and gardens to the City of Fullerton in 1965 on condition it be developed as a community cultural center. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
