Mission Santa Barbara
Founded by Padre Fermín Lasuén on December 4, 1786, the feast day of Saint Barbara, Mission Santa Barbara is the only mission continuously operated by the Franciscan order since its founding. It sits on a bluff overlooking the city of Santa Barbara and is an active parish church in the Los Angeles Diocese and is open to the public. The mission church is filled with original and noteworthy paintings and statues including the two largest religious paintings in all of the missions. It is on the National Register of Historic Places and is a US National Historic Landmark and California Historical Landmark.
