Fullerton Dam Control Tower
Built in 1941 by the US Army Corps of Engineers at the south end of what is now Craig Regional Park, the earth-fill Fullerton Dam provides flood control for the San Gabriel River Basin and Orange County. Its original (1938) purpose was protection of “the towns of Fullerton, Placentia and Anaheim, and the highly developed agricultural area from floods originating in the watershed above.” The dam was designed to retain up to 2306 acre-feet of water (751,412,406 gallons). It reached 68% of that capacity on January 31, 1979.
