Morey Mansion
David and Sarah Morey moved to what is now Redlands in 1882. Morey, a shipbuilder and mine carpenter, took on work as a carpenter, and Mrs. Morey started a citrus nursery. In 1889, Sarah sold her successful nursery and the funds were used to build their “dream house.” It was designed by Jerome Seymour and built by Seymour, Morey and expert woodworker Lee Wilmarth. “America’s Favorite Victorian,” as it has been dubbed, has 4,800 sq feet of living space in 20 rooms with 96 windows. After many changes of ownership over the years, the house has been restored and is currently a private residence. The Morey Mansion is a Heritage Award Recipient of the Redlands Historical Society.
