Woman’s Club of Orange
Mrs. Lea Collins invited ten friends to her home; each, in turn, invited ten friends and in February 1916, the Woman’s Club of Orange was formed. A lot was purchased in 1922 on which the Woman’s Club Event Center in Old Towne Orange was constructed in 1924 at a cost of $30,000. It soon became the center of the Orange community with dances, theater, opera, fashion shows, luncheons, dinners and card parties. The clubhouse became a billet for GI’s during World War II, as well as a facility for the Red Cross. The Old Towne Orange Historic District is on the National Register of Historic Places.
