Anaheim Convention Center
The original components of the Anaheim Convention Center included a basketball arena and convention hall. Designed by Los Angeles-based architects Adrian Wilson and Associates, the Space Age, Googie-style arena cut a striking figure. Two 200-ton steel arches held up its concrete shell dome. It has since undergone several cosmetic renovations and seven expansions, the most recent completed in 2017. It is the largest exhibit facility on the West Coast with almost 1.8 Million sq ft of exhibit and meeting space. The Center opened in July 1967 with a concert headlined by the Doors and Jefferson Airplane. The arena was home to the Anaheim Amigos of the ABA and hosted the Big West Conference’s men’s and women’s college basketball tournaments and wrestling at the 1984 Summer Olympics. The largest exposition held at the Center has been the Winter NAMM Show.
