Chinese Pavilion, Riverside, Riverside County

Chinese Pavilion

Honoring the Chinese settlers who came to Riverside in the late 19th/early 20th centuries, the Chinese Pavilion in Riverside’s Main Library Plaza was dedicated in October 1987 with greetings from US President Ronald Reagan and Ten-Hui Lee, President of the Republic of China (Taiwan). It was built near the site of a cluster of Chinese businesses that constituted Riverside’s first Chinatown. It was cooperatively funded by the the Republic of China (Taiwan) government, the City of Riverside, and the non-profit Chinese Pavilion Committee. All materials used in the construction of the pavilion were custom manufactured in Taipei, Taiwan.
