The Dr. John Wehrly House in the French Park neighborhood of Santa Ana was built in 1904-05 and expanded with a 2nd story in 1919. The Orange County Hospital was planned and built during his tenure as Orange County Physician and Health Officer.

Founded in 1910 by Col. Thomas A. Davis as the San Diego Army and Navy Academy in Pacific Beach, today’s Army and Navy Academy in Carlsbad grew out of his 1936 Davis Military Academy, established on the grounds of the former Red Apple Inn.

Sidney Woodruff commissioned Glendale architect Charles A. Hunter to design the Dana Point Inn. Hunter was also the architect for around 40 houses before the 1929 Wall Street crash doomed the project. Over 30 of those houses are still standing.

The history of St. James by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in La Jolla is closely tied to the Browning Scripps family from the use of Virginia Scripps’ Wisteria Cottage to Ellen Browning Scripps’ gifts of land and contributions to its construction.

The stately 2 1/2 story structure on Broadway at Santa Ana Blvd in Santa Ana is listed in the National Register of Historic Places as the Smith-Tuthill Funeral Parlors. It was built as a residence and office for Dr. J. A. Crane and his wife in 1885.

Granville Spurgeon joined his brother, city founder William H. Spurgeon, in Santa Ana in 1870. In 1879, Granville had a modest 1,426 sq ft, Victorian style house built for his bride, Frederica, and lived there until his death in August 1901.

Irvine Spectrum Center opened in phases starting with “The Entertainment Center” in 1995. Phase II, which opened in 1998, featured architecture inspired by the Alhambra in Spain. Phase III, with the Giant Wheel, opened in 2002, Phase IV in 2018.
