The Sontag Cut‐Rate Drug Company opened its first Southern California stores in 1929. In 1936, the Los Angeles firm of Norstrom and Anderson was hired to build a new premier store on Wilshire Blvd. in the Streamline Moderne style.

Leisure World developer Ross W. Cortese dubbed his Rossmoor corporate headquarters, built in 1964 in Laguna Hills, the Taj Mahal. The neoclassical contemporary building was designed by the architectural firm of Burke, Kober and Nicolais.

The most prominent and enduring landmark in Olivenhain is the Olivenhain Meeting Hall. The Meeting Hall may have been built in honor of the colonists 10th anniversary, since the decision to build a meeting hall was made in November 1894.

Richard D. King designed the rectangular two-story Redwine Building in the Art Deco style for attorney Hiram G. Redwine in the heart of Hollywood in 1931. It replaced Redwine’s family residence on the site and was used as his office.

The commercial property at 5040 W Pico Blvd., designed in the Art Deco style, was built in 1930. The building was converted from medical offices into a performance venue in 1991 and became the Comedy Union in March 2001.

Publisher and businessman William Wilkerson developed the Hollywood Reporter complex in the 1930s and 40s, starting with a two-story office building behind an existing one-story structure fronting Sunset Boulevard.

Completed in 1926, the Lovell Beach House in Newport Beach is internationally acclaimed as one of the greatest works of pioneering architect Rudolf Schindler. The use of unsurfaced concrete predates and predicts the Brutalist style.
