Peter K. Schaborum designed the Art Deco style Valley Municipal Building in Van Nuys as a miniature of Los Angeles City Hall in late 1931. Formal dedication ceremonies on 2/22/33, Washington’s Birthday, were attended by thousands.

The Spreckels Theatre has been in near continuous operation since August 1912. Sugar magnate John Spreckels commissioned Harrison Albright to build it to commemorate the Panama Canal opening and upcoming Pan-American Exposition.

This 4-story edifice on Hollywood Blvd. was designed in the Art Deco style by Norton and Wallis. From there, details get fuzzy. It was built in 1929 or 1930. It was the Shane Building or maybe the Shane & Regar (or Reger) Store Building.

In 1925 a bond issue was approved providing for a branch library on Sylvan Street in Van Nuys. The building was designed in the Spanish Colonial Revival style by Allison and Allison and served the public from March 1927 to April 1964.

The first drugstore in Westminster was built in 1874, fours years after Reverand Lemuel P. Webber founded a colony there. It was built by physician Dr. James McCoy and later owned by teacher and principal Marie Larter Hare.
