Fossil Reef Park, Laguna Hills, Orange County

Fossil Reef Park

Much of the coast of what is now Southern California was a tropical reef 17-18 million years ago. The remains of that reef were exposed in Laguna Hills in 1973. Orange County agencies worked together to create Fossil Reef Park in 1982.

Home Savings and Loan

The former Home Savings & Loan Bank (now Chase) at Harbor & Lincoln in Anaheim is generally a massive Modernist block built in 1970. Like some 150 Home Savings banks, it was designed and built by Millard Sheets featuring a huge mosaic.

Santa Barbara Cemetery

The incorporation document for the Santa Barbara Cemetery Association was signed on July 10, 1867. The Town Common Council sold the property “for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar gold coin of the United States.”

Driftwood Dairy, El Monte, Los Angeles County

Driftwood Dairy

Mike Dolan, assuming operation of the family business, founded Driftwood Dairy, Inc. in El Monte in 1946. The Driftwood Dairy drive-thru, a Googie gem on Lower Azuza Road, was built (and perhaps designed) by Theodore Masterson in 1961.
