The houses, cemetery and gardens of the Workman & Temple Family Homestead Museum in the City of Industry provide visitors the opportunity to explore what life was like in the area from the days of the Mexican ranchos to the Roaring 20s.

Heritage Walk, in Grape Day Park in Escondido, displays buildings from the city’s early days operated by the Escondido History Center. Buildings include the Santa Fe Depot, the Hoffman House and Escondido’s first library building.

Built in 1887, the Encinitas Santa Fe Railroad Station is almost universally described as a gingerbread-Victorian style building. Passenger service continued into the 1950s; freight service continued until the station closed in Jan 1969.

The renovated Lido Theater, in Via Lido Plaza in Newport Beach, held its grand (re)opening today, October 5, 2024. The single-screen movie theater, designed by architect Clifford A. Balch, opened to the public on October 27, 1939. Following today’s festive event, the Lido will host the 25th annual Newport Beach Film Festival from October 17 through 24.

The two-tower office building at Hollywood and Vine started out as the Bank of Hollywood Building when the first tower opened. On completion of the second adjoining tower in late 1930, the building was rechristened the Equitable Building.

Congregation Beth Israel was established in San Diego in 1861. In 1889, they built their first synagogue, Temple Beth Israel, at Second Avenue and Beech Street. It was moved to Heritage Park in the late 1970s and restored by 1988.

In 1922, the Fullerton Improvement Company built the Pomona Court, designed by locally prominent architect Frank Benchley, on the model of bungalow courts that had spread throughout Southern California from Pasadena since 1909.
