Park Place Methodist Episcopal Church South is a remarkable example of a Classical Revival building, almost unique in San Diego. Designed by renowned architect Norman Foote Marsh, it was built in 1910 at the edge of Balboa Park.

Strathearn Historical Park was established in 1968 when the Simi Adobe-Strathearn House and a 6-acre parcel of land on which it was built were donated to Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District to be preserved as a historical landmark.

The original St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Whittier was dedicated on July 9, 1893. It was destroyed by a fire in March 1912. The 2nd church opened in March 1914 and was decommissioned in 1959 when the 3rd and present building opened.

The first train depot in Ventura County was built in Santa Paula in 1887 on the Coast Line of the Southern Pacific Railroad, the main line between San Francisco and Los Angeles. It is now the home of the Santa Paula Chamber of Commerce.

Built in 1926, the Bakersfield Californian Building is considered an architectural landmark and a reminder of the golden years of the newspaper. The publisher at the time, Alfred Harrell, was an esteemed member of the community.

On June 3, 1958, Los Angeles voters approved a “Taxpayers Committee for Yes on Baseball” referendum allowing the Dodgers to acquire 352 acres of land from the city for their new stadium. Construction began September 17, 1959.

Like its inspiration, the Catalina Casino in Avalon, Casino San Clemente was a dance hall. On July 31, 1937, some 5,000 dancers turned out for the much-anticipated grand opening, complete with Hollywood-style search lights.
