The Jastro Building in Bakersfield was built in 1917 by prominent Kern County figure Henry Jastro. His heirs sold the building to Standard Oil when the company moved to Bakersfield in 1920. It was expanded by 10,000 sq. ft. in 1921.

Dr. Cephus Bard followed his brother Senator Thomas Bard to Ventura in 1868. He was the town’s first American doctor. This house, one of the few Italianate Victorian structures remaining in the city, was constructed for Dr. Bard in 1886.

The Faulkner House in Santa Paula was built in 1894. The large, 2 1/2-story Queen Anne style house with its three story octagonal tower was a work of Ventura County’s prominent architect/builders Herman Anlauf and Franklin P. Ward.

The current 7th generation horseshoe-shaped Redondo Beach pier, completed in 1995, stands 25 feet above the water, spans 70,000 square-feet of open space and connects to a remnant of the wooden Monstad Pier that was built in the 1920s.

The John Ginty House was built in ca. 1886 on Prospect Hill (now Cortez Hill) during the height of San Diego’s boom period. It is one of only a handful of prominent homes built there at the end of the 19th century that is still standing.

The Santa Manuela Schoolhouse in Arroyo Grande, constructed in 1901, is now a hands-on museum restored to its original condition and managed by the South County Historical Society. Constructed in 1901, it operated as a school until 1957.

Daniel Righetti ran a general merchandise store in Ventura on Main Street “offering billiards, cigars, tobacco and confections.” The family residence, a late Queen Anne style house with elements of Classical Revival, was built in 1895.
