Architect Frederick I. Roehrig drew on Moorish, Spanish, Victorian, and other stylistic elements to produce what was considered Pasadena’s most stunningly original building, what came be be called the Castle Green built in 1897-98.

Construction of Graves House in Oceanside was completed in 1888 as a summer home for Dr. Henry Graves and his wife Sarah. In 1985, Paramount Pictures rented the property for two weeks for use as Charlie’s house in the movie “Top Gun.”

The Bradbury Building in Los Angeles, built for Lewis L. Bradbury, opened on New Year’s Day 1894. The building has operated as an office building for most of its history and is the oldest standing commercial building in central L.A.

Originally built in 1919 and rebuilt in 1939, City of Los Angeles Fire Department Engine Co. 39 on Sylvan Street in Van Nuys was LAFD’s oldest station until firefighters moved to a new, state-of-the-art facility in 2019.

The Civic Auditorium was the last of three major civic center projects for the City of Pasadena. Construction of the 2,997-seat auditorium started in 1931. It was dedicated on February 15, 1932 and opening festivities lasted a whole week.

Founders’ Park in Anaheim features two historically significant structures: The Mother Colony House built in 1857 by George Hansen and the Woelke-Stoffel House built in 1894, one of the city’s oldest and finest Queen Anne style houses.

Development of the Mission Hills area in San Diego took off when Gordon, Goodwin, & Co., with George Marston, purchased land for subdivision in 1908. A boost came in 1910 when John Spreckels brought the electric streetcar to the area.
