Chips Restaurant

Chips Restaurant in Hawthorne, the inspiration of Jim and Martha Davidson, opened in 1957. The Googie icon was designed by Los Angeles architect Harry Harrison. The community landmark has been in continuous operation since its opening.

Arley Leck House, San Juan Capistrano, Orange County

Arley Leck House

The California bungalow-style home Arley Leck built for his bride, Alicia, in 1918 in San Juan Capistrano, was built on land given to them as a wedding gift by her parents. The house moved to the Los Rios Historical Center and restored in 2005.

In June, 1938, the city of Maywood celebrated “[a]mid the blare of trumpets and the waving of flags” the dedication of its new, 2-story, “paid in cash,” Art Deco/Moderne style city hall building, designed by engineer E. R. Edwards.

Upland City Hall

The former City Hall on D Street in Upland was built in 1939. The Art Deco/Moderne style building was designed by the prolific Los Angeles firm of Walker and Eisen. The building served as City Hall and Police Department until 1969.
