The cornerstone of the current Monrovia High School was laid in April 1928. The school was built in response to a growing student population after the addition of Duarte in July and Arcadia in November in 1920 to the high school district.

Echo Park Lake in Los Angeles, originally built in the 1860s as a reservoir for drinking water, today functions primarily as a detention basin in the city’s storm drain system, while providing recreational benefits and wildlife habitat.

Master carpenter Dennis Platt spent years scavenging pieces from demolished Victorian buildings. Working with local architect T.W. Layman in 1981, the construction of The Victorian incorporated and replicated pieces from Platt’s stash.

The Lanterman House in what is now La Cañada Flintridge was built on land purchased in 1875 by Jacob Lanterman. The house, commissioned in 1915 by Jacob’s son, Roy, and built by A. L. Haley, remained in the Lanterman family until 1987.

The Skinny House in the Rose Park neighborhood of Long Beach is a narrow, three-story house, built in 1932, that has been cited by both the Guinness Book of World Records and Ripley’s Believe It or Not as the nation’s skinniest house.

The Stuft Shirt restaurant franchise commissioned Thornton Ladd, who had recently partnered with John Kelsey, in 1960 to design a new Stuft Shirt restaurant located on the Lido Channel of Newport Harbor in the Mariner’s Mile area.

Designed by Kenneth A. MacDonald, Jr. and sculptor Federico Augustino Giorgi, the Portal of the Folded Wings Shrine to Aviation in Burbank, was originally built as the entrance to Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery in 1924.
