Alfred Haines came to San Diego in 1887 at the height of the Boom. He initially lived in Chula Vista, but had this 3-story, 5,500 sq. ft. Craftsman-style home built in the Golden Hill area in 1908 where he lived until his death in 1934.

Park Place Methodist Episcopal Church South is a remarkable example of a Classical Revival building, almost unique in San Diego. Designed by renowned architect Norman Foote Marsh, it was built in 1910 at the edge of Balboa Park.

Due to fund raising and building difficulties, it was over 9 years before the final corner-stone was placed, on March 7, 1882, for a building to be used by both the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) and Masons in San Diego.

The Marston House sits on a gently sloping portion of five acres overlooking Balboa Park in San Diego. Built in 1905 for George Marston and his wife, it is considered one of California’s finest examples of the Arts and Crafts movement.

The Spreckels Theatre has been in near continuous operation since August 1912. Sugar magnate John Spreckels commissioned Harrison Albright to build it to commemorate the Panama Canal opening and upcoming Pan-American Exposition.

Attorney Frank Jennings and physician George Crippen began construction of “a building which would add much to the appearance of that part of the city” in 1887. The Grand Pacific Hotel, in the Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego, still does.
