The Portuguese Chapel in the Point Loma area of San Diego was completed and inaugurated in 1922. The design of the small (12′ x 20′), single-story building was inspired by similar chapels from the Isles of Terceira and Pico in the Azores.

Rosecroft is an historic estate and gardens in the Point Loma neighborhood of San Diego. The 2-story, 15,600 sq ft mansion was built in 1912 by regionally prominent architect Emmor Brooke Weaver for Alfred D. and Marion James Robinson.

The Chaplain’s Residence in the Hillcrest area of San Diego, built in 1896 and first occupied in 1897, is the last remaining structure of the St. Joseph’s Sanitarium, a hospital founded in 1890 by the Sisters of Mercy.

The roots of the Maritime Museum of San Diego date back to 1927 when a group of dedicated ship buffs, led by waterfront reporter Jerry MacMullen, acquired the bark Star of India. The Museum Association was formally founded in 1948.

Development of the Mission Hills area in San Diego took off when Gordon, Goodwin, & Co., with George Marston, purchased land for subdivision in 1908. A boost came in 1910 when John Spreckels brought the electric streetcar to the area.

The San Diego Athletic Club building opened in 1928. The club folded in the mid-1960s and it was subsequently converted to offices for Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, used for World Trade Center San Diego and is now Connections Housing.

In 1827, José Antonio Estudillo, son of a captain in the presidial garrison in San Diego, was granted a house lot. By 1829, he had completed the large house, La Casa de Estudillo, which still occupies the entire east side of town plaza.
