Outpost Building

The full history of the Outpost Building at Hollywood and Las Palmas in Hollywood is buried deeper than most search engines go, but here’s what is known. The commercial and office complex was originally built in 1920 by locally active architect Ellet Parcher. Sources agree that it was originally two buildings that were later joined by a second story arcaded passage. Sources also indicate that the complex was renovated in 1927 by Benjamin Bean (B.B.) Horner and perhaps this was when the passage was added. A 1928 photo shows the entire complex in a modest Spanish Colonial Revival style with red tiled roofs, a bell tower and arched windows, so it is unclear when the street-facing side was redone in a French Regency style. Whatever the details, the Outpost Building is a contributing structure to the Hollywood Boulevard Commercial and Entertainment District on the National Register of Historic Places.
