Marjie Building

The City of Placentia provided this information about the Marjie Building in its very helpful “Historical Resources of Placentia” interactive map: This was the very first brick building finished in the Placentia townsite. In 1910 Bendix Baker built the two-story brick hotel and retail building, naming it the Marjie Building. It was completed a few months before the Placentia National Bank building on the corner, so the bank opened its doors in the Marjie Building. This building was built to provide commercial space for Placentia’s emerging business district. The structure reportedly housed offices and small businesses. The Marjie Building as of 1988 was in need of repair. As of 2002, the front was refinished and the majority of its original features have been retained.
