North Atwater Bridge

The North Atwater Bridge in Los Angeles provides access across the Los Angeles River between the residential area of Atwater Village and, via an underpass under the I5, the Crystal Springs Picnic Area of Griffith Park. Outlined in the LA River Master Plan as the “Los Feliz Equestrian/Non-Motorized Bridge,” initial funding from philanthropists Morton La Kretz and his daughter, Linda Duttenhaver, led the City Council to greenlight the project in 2013 as a “prime example of what public and private partnerships can accomplish together.” The project plans got final approval in 2017 and the bridge finally opened in February 2020. The cable-stayed steel bridge has two decks, one for equestrians, the other for pedestrians and cyclists. It is 325 long and 35 feet wide. The mast rises 126 feet from the top of the center pier, 148 feet from the riverbed.
