Bruin Theater

Despite changes of ownership, the Bruin Theater in Westwood Village has remained the Bruin Theater since it opened on New Year’s Eve 1937. The relatively small, (originally) 876-seat theater was designed by the renowned S. Charles Lee in the Streamline Moderne style for Fox West Coast Theaters. Along with many of the businesses in Westwood Village, it featured UCLA’s blue-and-gold color scheme in its decorations. Its eye-catching circular facade wraps around the theatre and the ornate neon marquee attracted nighttime visitors. For decades it was a major first run venue. It and its neighbor across the street, the Fox Village Theatre, closed on July 25, 2024, when leases expired.
