UCLA Nimoy Theater

UCLA Nimoy Theater in Westwood originally opened as the UCLAN Theatre on Christmas Day, 1940. The UCLAN was a project of Frances Seymour Fonda, the second wife of Henry Fonda. The theater was designed by Arthur W. Hawes in an austere Moderne style. The UCLAN was renamed Crest Theatre in June 1956 and passed through several owners and as many names. In 1988 Pacific Theatres, in conjunction with Disney, renovated the theater in a project led by theater designer Joe Musil that gave it a new Art Deco Revival look. The Crest Westwood was acquired by UCLA in 2018, made possible by a gift from the late Leonard Nimoy’s wife, Susan Bay Nimoy. The renovated and restored UCLA Nimoy Theater opened in September 2023. The theater was designated a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 2008.
